Privacy Policy

Introduction

MyTask is an Android task management app developed by Edward Sampayan. It is designed with privacy as a core principle. This application is offline-first and stores your task data locally on your Android device. We do not operate servers that collect or store your task information.

Information Stored

Depending on how you use the app, MyTask may store:

• Task titles
• Task descriptions
• Images you attach
• Documents you attach
• Audio recordings you create
• Reminder dates and times
• Application preferences

This information is stored locally on your device.

Permissions

Camera

MyTask does not request the camera permission itself. When you choose to capture an image for a task, MyTask opens your device's camera app, and the photo you take is saved in MyTask's private storage.

Microphone

Used for recording audio notes and speech-to-text features.

Notifications

Used to display reminder notifications that you schedule.

Exact Alarms

Used to trigger reminders at the precise time you selected.

Boot Completed

Used to restore scheduled reminders after restarting your device.

Speech Recognition

MyTask uses Android's built-in speech recognition service.

Depending on your device and its configuration, speech recognition may be performed entirely on-device or by the speech recognition provider configured on your Android device.

If your device uses a provider that processes speech in the cloud, your recorded speech is sent to that provider over the internet. What that provider does with it is covered by its own privacy policy, not this one. Speech-to-text may also be unavailable on a device that has no recognition provider installed.

OCR Text Extraction

MyTask includes an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature that extracts text from images.

Text recognition is performed on your device using Google ML Kit with a bundled machine learning model, so it works without an internet connection. MyTask does not upload your images or the extracted text to any server. Google's published list of data collected by ML Kit does not include your images or the recognized text. ML Kit may send limited usage and diagnostic information to Google, as described under "Internet & Third-Party Services" below.

QR Calendar Sharing

MyTask can generate a QR code for a task, containing a standard vCalendar event.

The QR code contains the task's own details: its title, its description, a start and end time, and — when you set a reminder — the reminder description. Anyone who scans the code, or who receives a screenshot or photo of it, receives those details. Treat showing or sending a QR code the same way you would treat sharing the task itself.

When scanned using a compatible application, the receiving device may display an event preview that the user can choose to save to their calendar.

MyTask does not access, read, or modify your calendar directly.

Internet & Third-Party Services

Creating and managing tasks, attachments, reminders and QR codes works without an internet connection, and text recognition (OCR) runs on your device using a model bundled with the app. Speech-to-text is the exception: it depends on the speech recognition provider your device is configured to use, which may send your speech over the internet (see "Speech Recognition" above). The developer does not operate servers that receive your tasks, attachments, recordings, or other content.

MyTask uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition. ML Kit includes a Google component that adds the Android INTERNET permission to the app and may send limited usage and diagnostic information to Google, such as:

• Device information (such as manufacturer, model, and Android version)
• App package name and version
• Per-installation identifiers that are not intended to identify you or your device
• Performance metrics, feature configuration, input and output sizes, event types, and error codes

According to Google, this data is encrypted in transit and is not transferred to third parties. For details, see Google's ML Kit data disclosure.

Apart from ML Kit, MyTask does not include:

• Advertising SDKs
• Analytics or crash-reporting services added by the developer
• Developer-operated cloud services or user accounts

Actions you choose to take may involve other apps or services, such as opening a link in your browser, emailing the developer from your email app, or sharing a backup file with an app you select. Those apps and services are governed by their own privacy policies.

Data Backup

MyTask asks Android to leave its encrypted task database, that database's temporary files, and the key that unlocks it out of Android's automatic backup and out of device-to-device transfer. Android and your device manufacturer carry out that request, so we can describe what the app asks for, not guarantee what every device or backup service does.

Photos, documents, voice notes, and QR code images attached to tasks are stored in MyTask's private app storage. Depending on your device settings, these files may be included in Android's automatic backup or device transfer. Without the task database, they are not linked to your tasks.

MyTask also provides a manual Backup & Restore feature. It creates a password-encrypted backup file containing your tasks, your attached photos, documents, voice notes and QR images, and the key to the database. You choose where the file goes: it can be saved to your device's Downloads folder or shared with an app you select. MyTask never sends this file anywhere on its own, and it is not sent to the developer unless you deliberately choose to send it. Keep your backup password safe, because it cannot be recovered.

If you uninstall the app or change devices without exporting a backup, your task data may not be recoverable.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data stays in MyTask on your device until you delete it. MyTask does not automatically upload or send your tasks, attachments or backups to the developer. Android itself may keep a backup of some app files, as described under "Data Backup" above.

When you delete a task, MyTask removes the task, cancels the reminder you set for it, and deletes its attached photos, documents, voice notes and QR image. If the app is interrupted unexpectedly while a deletion is running, a reminder or a leftover file can survive even though the task itself is already gone — and because the task has already been removed from your list, deleting it again may not be possible. Clearing MyTask's storage, or uninstalling the app, removes anything left behind on that device.

Uninstalling MyTask or clearing its storage deletes all data stored by the app on that device. It does not delete backup files you exported yourself, and it does not delete anything Android has already copied into its own backup, which is managed by Android and your Google account rather than by MyTask.

Backup files you exported are not deleted automatically. You can delete them yourself at any time. MyTask does not send your task data to a developer server, so there is no developer-held copy to delete unless you deliberately sent something to the developer yourself.

Children's Privacy

MyTask does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as MyTask evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
